According to recent updates to the BISP program, these two agreements will combat malnutrition and improve maternal and child health in Pakistan through the Benazir Nashonuma program.

The goal of this partnership is to provide unconditional support to malnourished children and mothers by providing food and nutritional supplements on a large scale. A comprehensive survey is currently being conducted in backward areas of Pakistan to register beneficiaries of the Benazir Nashonuma program, which addresses issues such as child stunting and women’s health.

Why are these agreements important to the BISP?

Luo Dapeng of WHO, Abdullah Fadil of UNICEF, and BISP Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad signed the agreements, according to the press release. Their partnership will raise community awareness and provide essential nutritional support to affected mothers and children.

According to an official statement issued this Tuesday, the agreement with UNICEF focuses on the provision of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) to treat severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and the promotion of social behavior change communication (SCCC).

WHO’s Commitment to Treating 75000 Children with Malnutrition

Under the agreement with WHO, District Headquarters Hospitals (DHQ) will establish stabilization centers across the country to provide specialized care to children suffering from SAM. A WHO representative stated that it is committed to providing evidence-based interventions that support breastfeeding as an essential strategy against stunting while also providing life-saving treatment to 75,000 severely malnourished children facing medical complications.

UNICEF Nutrition Support for Recovery

UNICEF dedicates itself to providing nutrition support to registered poor and malnourished children in Pakistan.
