The Punjab government has introduced a new relief package focused on reducing electricity bills by providing a relief of Rs 14 per unit to selected users. This relief is available to those who use between 200 and 500 units per month across five major companies in Punjab as shown below.

Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has implemented a series of relief measures to reduce electricity bills for citizens of Punjab. She mentioned that this relief package is specifically targeted at the consumers in Punjab and the federal capital, Islamabad who use more than 200 units per month. Since August, users, who use between 200 and 500 units have been taking advantage of a relief of Rs 14 per unit on their bills, and this step is expected to continue until September.

The minister also confirmed that the Punjab government has extended this relief to over 3.5 million consumers of five electricity companies in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Islamabad. BenazirKafaalat.pk

What are the 5 companies offering a relief of Rs 14 per unit

The government has asked the following companies to apply the Rs 14 per unit relief on electricity bills, the rest has to be borne by the Punjab government:

  • Lahore Electric Supply Corporation: Relief for 840,000 customers
  • Multan Electric Supply Corporation: Relief for 653,883 customers
  • Faisalabad Electric Supply Corporation: Relief for 540,139 customers
  • Gujranwala Electric Supply Corporation: Relief for 731,305 customers
  • Islamabad Electric Supply Corporation: Relief for 785,550 customers

The Prime Minister’s initiative for Rs 50 billion in relief to residents consumes up to 200 units

The cut comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier announced a Rs 50,000 million package to help those who consume up to 200 units of electricity. The initiative was widely appreciated and Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, was praised for her support in times of economic crisis.

He reiterated his commitment to reduce financial pressure on the public and complete the promises made by PML-N leaders. The relief package is part of a broader plan to reduce electricity bills. Future initiatives are expected to include promotion of solar energy solutions.
