The Punjab government led by CM Maryam Nawaz has launched the ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar‘ Interest-Free Housing loan scheme, a major step towards providing affordable housing. On August 21, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially launched the scheme, underlining the government’s commitment to rapidly build homes for the needy. She expressed pride in the success of the project and assured citizens that access to housing will be accelerated.

Under the initiative, the government is providing an interest-free loan of Rs 1.5 million for the purchase of five marla plots in urban areas and ten marla plots in rural areas. The scheme includes a three-month grace period with no payment requirements.

In the first phase, 3,000 housing units worth Rs 1.5 million each will be built in each district of Punjab. The Punjab government will subsidize 60% of the cost while the owners will pay the remaining 40% in installments over a period of five years.

Number of Cities Included in the Housing Scheme

The Interest-Free Housing scheme will initially be launched in six major cities:

  • Lahore
  • Rawalpindi
  • Faisalabad
  • Sialkot
  • Multan
  • Sarghoda

These cities have been selected due to their large populations and significant need for affordable housing.

Construction and monitoring of the project

The Social Protection Authority is responsible for developing policies and monitoring the implementation of the program. For example, 5,000 housing units will be built along Raiwind Road in Lahore, an important area connecting urban and rural areas.
