Maryam Nawaz officially launched the Punjab Himmat Card for people with disabilities at a ceremony in Lahore. During the ceremony, she distributed Himmat cards to those present and explained how they can easily get Rs 10,500 from ATMs using their card.
She also announced that 65,000 registered people will be able to travel with these cards starting October 15.
Maryam Nawaz launches the Himmat Card Initiative in Lahore
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday launched the Himmat Card, a major initiative to support people with disabilities. The scheme provides Rs 10,500 quarterly to 65,000 eligible people.
Maryam Nawaz also announced that people beyond the initial 65,000 beneficiaries could apply for a Himmat card by writing to her office. In a gesture of inclusion, she invited people with disabilities to sit next to her while ministers and officials took their seats behind them.
Himmat Card to Use As A Public Transport Card Starting October 15
Maryam Nawaz explained at the ceremony in Lahore that the Himmat card will also serve as a transport card, providing free public transport for people with disabilities. This includes Orange Line and Metro buses in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. Starting October 15, the Himmat card will be valid for travel.
Eligible recipients for the Himmat Card Project
Addressing the audience, Maryam Nawaz discussed the importance of the Himmat card in promoting social and economic well-being in the country. She manned the registration counter and carefully watched the card activation process.
She explained, “The Punjab government issues Himmat cards to disabled people who are unable to earn a living outside their homes. With this support, people with disabilities no longer have to depend on their families or society.”
Artificial Limbs for 65,000 Registered People
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of the Himmat Card in supporting people who are unable to support themselves, thereby reducing the financial burden on families. She acknowledged the resilience of people with disabilities and praised their courage and positive attitude.
CM also expressed gratitude for the efforts of her team in launching the scheme. She said, “Rs 10,500 may not seem like a large amount, but it is a significant support,” and added that the beneficiaries will also receive prosthetic limbs.
