What’s the reason for increasing the per-unit electricity price

The hike in tariffs is a result of rising electricity prices in May and June 2024. NEPRA has revised the electricity prices and added Rs 3.16 per unit for June and Rs 2.59 per unit for May. As a result, K-Electric consumers will see this combined increase of Rs 5.75 per unit in their October and November bills.

Who will not be affected by these rates

NEPRA clarified that this increase will apply to all customers except lifeline and electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) users. This additional cost will be separately shown on each bill to show transparent cost adjustment.

How this rate hike will impact residents of Karachi

Karachi residents will now have to brace themselves for higher electricity bills as these new tariffs come into effect. With the cost of living already high, this increase further adds financial pressure on the city’s population.
