Good news for low-income families who get essential food items at subsidized rates: Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has just announced another price cut. This time, USC has decreased the prices of over 170 items by up to Rs 190. This follows a recent price cut of 800 items aimed at making basic necessities more affordable for those who need them.
Price Reduction on More Than 170 Items in Utility Stores by Rs 190
The latest price cut is applicable to over 170 utility items, with discounts ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 190. Thanks to USC’s ongoing efforts to fight inflation, products like tea, spices, and other essential goods are now more affordable. Since October, families can walk into the nearest utility store and buy subsidized items without any restrictions.
USC Reduced Discounts on Over 800 Items
Last month, USC removed subsidies on five essential items from the Prime Minister’s relief package and, in response, reduced prices on more than 800 products. We took this step to make sure that families nationwide continue to receive daily use items at discounted prices.
The Future of USC: Privatisation or Liquidation?
Regarding the future of USC, the federal government is considering two options: privatisation or liquidation. Privatisation could help improve services by transferring ownership to private investors, while liquidation would mean dissolving the company and selling its assets.
When are discounted prices available for essential utility items?
The price reduction on over 170 utility items ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 190 came into effect on September 28. These include tea and spices, with the goal of providing relief to consumers and making essential items more affordable.
