Secretary BISP Welcomes Delegation from NIM
The Benazir Income Support Program has been actively supporting families for many years and is now expanding its resources and scope. Millions of families are receiving assistance in meeting their basic needs through BISP assistance programs.
The NIM delegation visited BISP headquarters in Islamabad to understand the functioning of the program and its impact on marginalized communities across the country. The Secretary explained several key initiatives, such as the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER), Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, Nashonuma, and scholarship programs for students.
New Payment System for Next Tranche
During the briefing, the secretary stated an important development: the introduction of a new payment system that will process quarterly tranche disbursement. This new method will now involve six banks. The previous system, which worked with only two banks, is a departure from this. The change will improve transparency, speed up the cash distribution process, and save BISP around Rs 2 billion annually.
Method of BISP Kafaalat Disbursement of Rs 10,500
The secretary also shed light on the process of disbursing the Rs 10,500 Kafaalat payment. To ensure transparency, BISP staff, in collaboration with local government, manage designated camps to provide the payments.
He also discussed the NSER database, highlighting its reliability and the fact that both public and commercial organizations use it for various social security programs. International development partners have also recognized the credibility of this database.
