The Punjab Bike Scheme was recently launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Under this initiative, electric and petrol bikes will be distributed to 20,000 students across Punjab. The e-voting for the Bikes scheme 2024 was completed a week ago and the Punjab government has released the list of selected candidates.
Punjab Bike Scheme Delivery Date 2024
Around 72,000 students from across Punjab submitted their applications before the May 1 deadline, of which 57,000 applied for petrol bikes and 15,000 for electric bikes.

Under this scheme, 20,000 bikes will be given away through lottery, of which 19,000 will be petrol and 1,000 will be electric. Separate quotas have been allocated for male and female students: out of 19,000 petrol-powered bikes, 11,676 are reserved for male and 7,324 for female students. Similarly, out of 1,000 electric bikes, 700 are reserved for male students and 300 for female students.
Lahore High Court Order on Bike Scheme
The Lahore High Court has referred the motorcycle project to the NOC of the Environment Ministry. Without this approval, the court stopped the distribution of motorcycles. Justice Shahid Karim issued a five-page judgment in the previous hearing. This scheme envisages providing 20,000 motorcycles to the students.
The court said introducing a large number of motorcycles may have an adverse impact on the environment, so the Punjab government must seek approval from the Environment Ministry before starting the motorcycle project.

Delivery Date of Punjab Bikes Scheme
After the Lahore High Court decision, the Punjab government is yet to announce the delivery date of the bikes. The project remains on hold until the NOC is received from the Environment Ministry. However, it is expected that the delivery of the bikes will begin before the budget for FY 2024-25 once Punjab Bank completes all the processes and receives the NOC.
