The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), a cash transfer initiative that helps the country’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens.

On the third day of ongoing discussions with Pakistani officials, the IMF delegation received a detailed briefing on BISP operations. The meeting mentioned important achievements in the first four months of the current fiscal year, including the distribution of funds to eligible beneficiaries and the financial obstacles faced by the program.

Sources said the BISP briefed IMF about the timely distribution of cash assistance and the measures taken to address potential financial hurdles. IMF officials expressed their approval of the effective implementation of BISP and its role in supporting low-income families.

The IMF evaluation mission currently in Pakistan to assess the country’s economic progress under the ongoing program has shown confidence in the positive impact of BISP program.

On November 7, BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid announced the Benazir Skill Training Program for needy women and their families, addressing concerns that the program could create dependency among beneficiaries.
