The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) currently assists around 93 lakh families across Pakistan, giving essential financial assistance to those facing economic difficulties. Recently, BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid announced a new initiative that focuses on skill training and Hunar to help these families achieve financial stability.

The upcoming ‘Benazir Hunarmand Program’ will provide beneficiaries and their children with valuable skills that will allow them to earn a respectable income. By learning particular skills, families have the opportunity to be free from poverty.

At a press conference, Rubina Khalid and senior BISP officials unveiled plans for the ‘Benazir Hunarmand Program’, a project that will acquire youth with vocational skills so that they can contribute positively to Pakistan’s economy.

As Senator Rubina Khalid explained, the objective of the programme is to open up employment opportunities by teaching youth practical skills that can lead to sustainable sources of income.

Main Objectives of the Hunarmand Program

Beneficiary women and their children will receive skill-based training to improve their employability or help them start small businesses. This training will increase your financial independence, which will lead to more household stability. By empowering more families, the programme will finally create more space to help new participants who need similar assistance.

Chairperson Rubina Khalid on BISP’s Role And Achievements

On November 8, Chairperson Rubina Khalid stated BISP’s achievements and the credibility it has recognised with international development organisations. She said BISP is a social protection model with advanced identification techniques, strong partnerships and transparent monitoring.

BISP’s Rapid Response To Disaster Relief

The Chairperson also mentioned the BISP program’s track record in distributing rapid relief to disaster-affected populations, such as during the COVID-19 crisis and the 2022 floods. This success has motivated other countries to explore similar social protection programs like Benazir Kafaalat.

Next Visit of the West African Delegation At BISP One Window Center

On November 11, a West African delegation will visit Pakistan to study more about the BISP program. Their itinerary includes visits to regional BISP offices, meetings with program-qualified beneficiaries, and an introduction to BISP’s registration. They will also visit the Benazir One Window Center to study payment systems. A roundtable discussion on November 14 will give an opportunity to develop a cooperative action plan for future partnerships.

Latest Updates on the Benazir Taleemi and Nashonuma Programs

During the press conference, Rubina Khalid also took stock of other BISP programs. She mentioned that through the Benazir Scholarships, more than 9.7 million students from eligible families receive educational stipends based on school attendance. In addition, the Benazir Nashonuma Program disburses nourishing food and cash assistance to nearly two million mothers and children, supporting their health and well-being.
