Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has launched a new scheme to improve the nutrition of adolescent girls in Pakistan. To ensure healthy growth and development, the SOPRAN project will provide nutritional benefits to girls. Recently announced by BISP Director General Naveed Akbar, this initiative is now officially in action and will support 1 lakh adolescent girls.

BISP, in collaboration with Nutrition International and with financial assistance from GIZ, has officially launched the Social Protection Support Program for Adolescent Girls’ Nutrition (SOPRAN). This initiative focusses on the health and well-being of 100,000 adolescent girls by providing them with essential nutritional support.

Naveed Akbar, Director General of BISP, had previously announced the upcoming launch of the program; now it has officially begun. This project aims to help girls who need proper nutrition for a healthy life.

The SOPRAN project will provide adolescent girls with a sense of social security by improving their nutrition and helping them develop the skills they need to become influential members of their communities. This initiative provides girls with the opportunity to have a positive impact on family nutrition by promoting better eating habits, participating in intergenerational discussions, and raising awareness about nutrition.

Supporting 1 Lac Adolescent Girls Through Nutrition

According to a recent press release, BISP has officially launched the SOPRAN initiative. The project aims to provide 1 lakh adolescent girls in Pakistan with the nutrition they need for healthier lives.

Who are the SOPRAN project’s key partners?

Several key partners, including representatives from GIZ, Nutrition International, CERP, provincial departments of education and health, food authorities, and other national and international partners, support the project.

Where is the SOPRAN project deployed?

Initially, seven districts in Pakistan will implement the BISP SOPRAN project:

  • Faisalabad, 
  • Swat, 
  • Shaheed Benazirabad, 
  • Quetta, 
  • Kotli, 
  • Skardu, 
  • and Islamabad

In these districts, BISP will offer programs aimed at changing community-level behaviour, improving access to fortified foods, and providing comprehensive nutrition education.
