The construction of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore has started. This marks a major step by the Punjab government to address the shortage of cancer treatment facilities in Pakistan. Earlier, many patients were forced to seek expensive treatment abroad, which was unaffordable for many, especially low-income people.
To fill this gap, the Punjab government is working to make cancer treatment available across the country. The first cancer hospital is being built in Lahore to treat cancer patients locally.
Construction Of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital Started by CM Punjab
CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced that the construction of the hospital is expected to be completed by June 2026 with the motive of giving hope to cancer patients as soon as possible. A 3D model has already been created and the first phase of construction is in process. The Punjab government has allocated a budget of around Rs 30 billion for the project, with the possibility of increasing the budget if required. BenazirKafaalat.pk
What are the facilities offered by Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital
The construction of this hospital is considered a historic initiative of the Punjab government. Mrs. Maryam Nawaz ordered that the construction and renovation of all major hospitals in Punjab should be completed by June 2025. The first phase of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore includes state-of-the-art medical facilities, clinics for the care of cancer patients, highly qualified medical staff, and amenities such as parking and accommodation for staff and patients’ families.

Residencies and umbrellas will be provided for the comfort of patients’ relatives. About 100 to 150 beds will be offered in the first phase, and an expansion to about 280 beds is planned in the second phase.

Maryam Nawaz stated that the hospital aims to provide the best, and quality cancer treatment so that patients no longer have to travel abroad. The hospital will make sure of the availability of quality medicines and implement a robust surveillance system to ensure strict security.
She also said that the hospital facilities will be designed to meet the needs of the patients, and all efforts will be made to provide modern and comprehensive medical care.

What’s the main objective behind this hospital
The main objective of this hospital is to provide affordable cancer treatment in Pakistan and save patients from the hassle of seeking treatment abroad. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of saving lives by providing the best care to cancer patients.
Once the Lahore hospital is completed, plans are in place to build similar facilities in other major cities of Pakistan. Mrs. Maryam Nawaz also announced initiatives for Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Hospital in Sargodha with an estimated budget of around Rs 10 billion. The budget will be adjusted as and when required to make sure that the best healthcare services are provided as soon as possible.
