President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of expanding the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to reach more beneficiaries and uplift underprivileged communities.
During a briefing with BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid, he urged the establishment of an office in Gwadar to ensure that deserving individuals in the area can access the program’s benefits.

The President expressed concern about the 0.45 percent service charges imposed by banks on BISP cardholders, advocating for these charges to be waived. He suggested that the State Bank of Pakistan should be contacted to address this issue.
He highlighted that the new payment system would help safeguard BISP beneficiaries from potential exploitation.

Additionally, he called for collaboration with donors and the private sector to enhance support for BISP’s efforts in providing scholarships to deserving students.
Key Initiatives by BISP Program
During the briefing, the President learned about several key initiatives undertaken by BISP, including the Benazir Kafaalat Program, Benazir Taleemi Wazaif Program, BISP Scholarships for Undergraduates Program, and the Benazir Nashounuma Program.

The BISP Chairperson reported that 598.718 billion rupees have been allocated for the program in the current fiscal year. She noted that the Benazir Kafalat Program serves as BISP’s flagship initiative, offering unconditional cash transfers to eligible women and transgender individuals across Pakistan.
